Puppy Games

Dobermans need a lot of stimulation, not just physically, but mentally. I do obedience training with Fendi daily, but it never seems like enough. Sometimes she wanders around the condo, pacing like a lion in the zoo. This is after countless walks, training sessions, and excursions to the dog park, etc…

I was advised to look into puppy brain games for Fendi. I ordered a few toys from Outward Hound through Amazon.

  1. Dog Puzzle – Level 1

I put little banana slices under each of the bones and let her go for it. Her first run, she basically just flipped the toy upside down and than back over. The second time, I held the base down so she would have to individually flip each little bone over. It took her a little longer to figure it out, but she eventually got each bone flipped through use of her paws, nose and mouth. The game also has the option of facing the bones either forward or backward to increase difficulty level. As she mastered the easier way, we gradually increased the amount of bones flipped in the harder direction. She really enjoys this game!

2. Tornado Treat Puzzle – Level 2

This toy has been the most challenging for Fendi! Not only does it have the flippable bones, but it spins on multiple levels to unveil each level of hidden treats. At first, she just kept whacking it around. She is still learning to slow down in order to get the treats. At first she became frustrated and just started whipping the toy all over the place. We have found these toys to be very durable and, despite her best efforts, nothing has yet to break or detach. She is learning to slow down & focus to successfully retrieve each treat.

3. Dog Brick Treat Puzzle – Level 3

This is by far Fendi’s favourite of the 3. The toy requires her to flip, slide, open and close compartments for a total of 20 hidden banana slices. She fired this one out relatively quickly on her first try, maybe because she had already mastered the first (the second still not so much). She seems to get faster and faster each time we give her the puzzle and it is absolutely adorable to watch. She now even shuts the little drawers after she opens them and takes out her treat.
